HAWTHORN battle hard - AFL 2006 -

Hawks loose another game and a few players in a tough game against the doggies.

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson praised his side's endeavour and said the Hawks were involved in a 'good contest'.

"It was a good game of footy from where we sat in the coaches box," Clarkson said.

"It was a good contest from go to woe, we got away to a good start and were perhaps a little bit fortunate that the Doggies kicked inaccurately early but maybe that was because of Hawthorn's good pressure as well."

"We were really pleased with our start to the game and we just let it slip in a couple of areas in the second quarter where the Dogs, they're a fantastic running side, they just got a little bit of a run on."

WESTERN BULLDOGS: 1.7, 7.9, 11.11, 16.13 (109)

Hawks - Hawthorn wins thrilling match against the Bombers

The Hawthorn fc revival under Alastair Clarkson continues to grow after the Hawks scored a gutsy one-point win over a brave Essendon at a rain-soaked MCG on Sunday.

It was the Hawks' fourth win in five games to start the 2006 season - only one less win than they achieved for all of last year in Clarkson's first year as coach.

But of their four wins so far this season, this 12.12 (84) to 12.11 (83) victory was the sweetest of all for Hawks' fans coming against their arch-rivals from the 1980's and the team that has inflicted more misery upon them than any other team over the past decade.

Former skipper Shane Crawford was inspirational with 25 possessions and a great snap goal in the second term while Joel Smith was impassable across half-back and Peter Everitt rucked his heart out.

Add to that Williams' three goals and the continued development of players such as Tim Clarke (22 possessions), Jordan Lewis (19 possessions) and Campbell Brown (19 touches and a goal) and the Hawks' fans have more to look forward to with every passing week.

HAWTHORN: 1.4, 6.5, 11.7, 12.12 (84)
ESSENDON: 4.2, 7.5, 9.10, 12.11 (83)

GOALS

Hawthorn: Williams 3, Dixon 2, Clarke 2, Crawford, Everitt, Brown, Vandenberg, Croad

BEST – Hawthorn: Crawford, Clarke, Smith, Jacobs, Williams

the Hawks are off to a flyer but can they keep it up?

The Hawks are off to a flying start, 3 wins and 1 loss to the much superior collingwood footy club, the Hawks can only watch on and wish the were as good, but don't under estimate this team of loosers and drugos who are recruited off the streets of the dirty town of Hawthorn,

As they finish there fourth match of the season with a sloppy win over an even lesser team of Carlton, they ran out to win by a convincing margin of 5 goals, lead by the old smart ass looser called Hank/Crawford, who is on the same par as the much hated Jason Ackermanis of Brisbane.

But lets watch on as the Hawks struggle for the rest of the season.
